Saxon Math:
We have been working in our First Grade Math books. The first few lessons will have us focusing on ordering sets by identifying a set by the number of objects and comparing sets by having more or less. Students will make towers to represent numbers 1 - 20 and ordering numbers 0-9. We are working on adding doubles, adding one and will soon move on to mixed addition problems. We have been working recognizing odd and even
numbers, counting by 2’s and measuring with non- standard units. We will
continue to work on recognizing coins and using different coins to make
the value we need. This is a tough concept and would be great to practice
at home. Students are working on adding doubles to 20 and adding ones. We continue to learn
how to use pictures to represent objects in story problems. We are also working on
odd and even numbers. Below is our doubles poem that we practice daily. See if your
student can say it!

7 + 7 = 14 …Let’s lean
8 + 8 = 16 …Know what I mean
