Meet Mrs. Davis

I'm so excited to be starting another year at Aspen View Academy this year.  I love the community feeling and emphasis on teaching the whole child to which AVA aspires.  I have had over 10 years teaching experience, mostly in Fourth Grade.  I love Fourth Grade, as it is an age where students' minds are growing and developing at a stage where they are able to gain a new depth of knowledge in the content areas.
I was born and raised in Northern California and received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Greenville College in Illinois. I have taught in Arizona and California, as well as Colorado.  My family and I moved to Castle Rock in 1999, and we love it here!  My husband and I have three children, Kaleb, Kassidy, and Kody, all grown!  We also have a dog, Noche, who always adds adventure to our lives!  I love to read and scrapbook as well as spend time with my family.
I believe that every child is a gift, unique in their abilities and learning styles. Children need the opportunity to learn and grow in those abilities, not just intellectually, but emotionally and socially as well. I also believe that learning is not simply the memorization of facts, but a process of taking what has been learned from those facts to better understand and even shape one’s own world. Finally, I believe that values such as respect for self, others, and for the world around us are also important in the education process.  These values are not innate, but need to be both taught and developed.  A child needs to first feel secure in himself, but then learn that it is part of his responsibility in this world to care for others as well.  These are all a part of the complicated and beautiful interweaving work within a classroom!
I am excited to start the new school year with my classroom of fourth graders and to begin to develop this community of learners who will interact together to grow individually and as well as a class as a whole!
