Happy ALMOST Fall Break! Lots of information here for the next couple of weeks!
Parent-Teacher Conferences:
Parent-teacher conferences are this week! You will meet with your student’s homeroom teacher for 15 minutes. Our team will collaborate beforehand to share information from all of your student’s skills groups. If you haven’t signed up yet, please sign up HERE.
No Homework Week & Grades:
Due to conferences and the end of the quarter, 3rd grade will have a no-homework week. Please continue to check Infinite Campus for any missing assignments. The gradebook closes on October 8th, and final grades will be posted on October 23rd.
Animal Classification Unit:
Next week, we will wrap up Unit 2: Animal Classification! Students will celebrate with Animal Day, where they will participate in an animal escape room, enjoy animal-inspired prizes and snacks, and end the day with an animal-themed movie. Don’t forget that our Animal Classification test will be Tuesday, October 6th. Study, study, study at home!
FYI, we will have lots of donation and volunteer opportunities coming after Fall Break, please keep an eye out for several sign-ups when we return:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
- Parents please connect to our Class Dojo- this is how to monitor your students behavior (positive and negative)
- Please send your student to school with a filled water bottle as well as a couple healthy snacks for the day. Reminder that we are a nut-free classroom.
- Colorado weather changes hourly so please pack your student appropriate attire for the day.
- We will have PE every Tuesday - and some Fridays. Please have your student wear tennis shoes for those days.
- Library day is Monday

Language Arts:
This week students will wrap up their Animal Research Project! Students researched an animal, wrote a rough draft with their research, and then typed their Final Draft all about an animal of their choice!
Homeroom Read Aloud: The BFG by Roald Dahl
Reading:
CKLA Unit: Animal Classification
Reading Skills: Non-Fiction Features, Sequence, Compare/Contrast vocabulary, and Predictions
CKLA Read Aloud: Rattenborough's Guide to Animals
Spelling: None until unit 3 :)
This week students will be focusing on identifying text features and poems! We will be teaching them all the important pieces of poetry such as stanzas, lines, figurative language, and rhyming! There is no spelling, but please still encourage your student to read for at least 20 minutes a night! This does build their accuracy and fluency!
Math:
Module 3 (5 lessons): Time Measurement and Intervals
This week we will work through Module 3! This is a quick unit! Students will be working on telling time to the minute, am and pm, finding start and end times, and solve time interval problems.
We will wrap up Module 3 and take our Module Test this week on Tuesday. Please practice telling time at home with an analog clock! We will not have homework this week so may sure any late or missing assignments are turned in. Next up after fall break will be multiplication!
History/Science:
Science: Animal Classification
Students will have an in-class review day. The animal classification unit test will be on October 6th! Please make sure you are studying at home. We will finish out the week with making an Collaborative Animal and giving it a habitat and ending with out Animal Day!

Meet the Teacher - Letter from Mrs. Rubert
I am so grateful to be part of the AVA community! This will be my sixth year teaching and third year at Aspen View Academy. I have previously taught fourth grade and kindergarten but third grade is my absolute favorite! I am a Washington State native and have now lived in Colorado for nine years! I received my bachelors degree in Elementary Education at Western Washington University and my Masters of Education in School Guidance Counseling at City University of Seattle. I love AVA! I currently have two of my own children in the building including my second grader, Scarlett, and my eighth grader, Ben. My oldest, Matilda, is attending Colorado Early Colleges as a Sophomore. My husband Tyler and I enjoy jumping in the car with the kids and exploring in the mountains, heading to the lake for kayaking, or discovering a new hike! We have two cats, Kiwi and Henry, a three year old rescue pup named Buckley and a six month old Bernese Mountain Dog named Bonnie. I love country music, attending concerts, sunshine, being outdoors, traveling, and spending time with my family! I am so excited for this school year! Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with me!
