Welcome back from Fall Break! I hope it was a wonderful and restful week. I'm so excited to see them! I love the weeks leading up to Halloween, the kids are always so excited and I love pulling all of the different activities to get them engaged in their learning.
A couple important things to make note of that we have coming up in 3rd Grade! We are finishing up Unit 2 of Animal Classification. We are going to celebrate all of their hard work with an Animal Day on Friday, October 25th. You're student will be participating in all sorts of fun activities such as an Animal Escape Room, a Collaborative Drawing, and a little end of day Animal Party with treats! It will be a great way to end out our animal unit!
Also, please look for an email coming home from me with TWO Sign Up Geniuses. We are looking for parent volunteers and donations for our Halloween Party (October 31st) and our Math or Treat (Nov. 1st). There will be options for donations and lots of volunteers!!
Finally, Quarter 1 ended on October 10th. All teachers will have grades finalized by October 24th and you will see them posted by October 25th. Please check Infinite Campus and your students grades if you have any concerns, please reach out BEFORE October 24th so that there are no surprises when grades are posted!
I can't believe we are already finishing CKLA Unit 2 and Quarter 1 is wrapped up! We are just flying through this 3rd Grade year together!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
- Parents please connect to our Class Dojo- this is how to monitor your students behavior (positive and negative)
- Please send your student to school with a filled water bottle as well as a couple healthy snacks for the day. Reminder that we are a nut-free classroom.
- Colorado weather changes hourly so please pack your student appropriate attire for the day.
- We will have PE every Wednesday - and some Fridays. Please have your student wear tennis shoes for those days.
- Library day is Tuesday

WORD of the WEEK and Language Arts:
Students will be working on identifying Topic Sentences and Conclusion Sentences! They will read a paragraph to identify these two types of sentences!

Unit 2: Animal Classification
Students will have a Spelling Test for 2.11 on Wednesday!
We are working our way through Unit 2: Animal Classification! Students will see new Spelling Words coming home this week! Spelling words will be coming home on Monday, you will see 10 base words, and we are continuing with with their added -ed and -ing spellings, a total of 30 words, with an additional 10 CHALLENGE words. This week the students WILL BE tested on these 10 words as well. This is where we are NOT following a Monday-Friday test schedule for spelling tests.
They will receive their next Spelling List when we start Unit 3 on Monday, October 28th!
Our spelling test for 2.11 will be on: Wednesday, October 23rd.

Math:
Section 4 Lessons 31-34: Writing Numbers and lots of Measurement! Students will also be working with a Test Corrections sheet on Monday, October 21st. Please look for this coming home in their Thursday Folders - it might be homework moving forward!
SCIENCE:
We are so excited that this science unit goes directly with our reading and language arts unit: Classifying Animals! We will continue to classify animals this week and begin our in depth study on each animal group. This week: Amphibians, Reptiles and Birds! Study Guides coming home this week!

Meet Mrs. Chambless
I am in my 17th year teaching, eighth year at AVA! LOVE it here! I have taught kindergarten, 2nd and 3rd. I am a Colorado native and love being with my family. My husband, Matt, works as a specialist for Douglas County School District... we are a teaching family! I have a 12th grader, Allikaye, and twins in sixth grade, Kai and Cambria. We are a busy family and like it that way! We are out playing sports, hiking, traveling, camping, and love being outdoors... Colorado living... especially living in the pines in Larkspur! I love coffee, reading, rainbow colors, smiley faces, and donuts! This is going to be a great year! Thank you for sharing your sweet children with me!!
