Nicole Hiam

I'm so happy to be a part of the Aspen View Academy family!  This will be my thirteenth year at AVA, but it is my first year as the Assistant Principal for kindergarten, first, and second grades.

I have held several positions at Aspen View.  I started here in 2014 as the Director of the Before and After-Care Program, where I was privileged to introduce the summer camp program to our building.  Then, in 2018, I was able to put my teaching credentials to use as I moved into the classroom as an 8th grade English teacher.  Last school year, I was the school's Data and Assessment Director while I was going through the principal licensure program at Colorado State University. 

Before teaching at AVA, I taught all three levels of composition to freshmen at Colorado State University -- Pueblo, while I completed my Master's degree.  I finished my degree program there in 2008.  CSU-Pueblo is also where I earned my undergraduate degree in English.

I have lived in Colorado since I was three years old.  Currently, all of my family live nearby as well; my parents are here, and my brother and sister-in-law (and my canine-nephew!) are all close by, and I can't really envision myself anywhere else.  

When I am not at school, I enjoy reading, writing, knitting, and crocheting.  I especially love to read about Victorian England, and I might have a literary crush on Sherlock Holmes.  

I am  very excited to take on this new role and to serve the AVA family in a new capacity.  It's going to be a great year, and I'm looking forward to working with all of our K-2 families!
