It's a holiday week here in 3rd Grade and we have a busy and exciting week ahead of us!
Our week will include Math Halloween Stations, where students will solve math problems and play different games as they practice their math skills. We will also have our Annual Math or Treat, a fun math twist on traditional trick-or-treating! Students will solve a math problem and then get to trick-or-treat throughout the hallway.
We will wrap up our Halloween fun with our Classroom Fall Party, where students will get to show off their costumes and enjoy some fun activities and food with their classmates. The party will be followed by our annual costume parade! The parade is open for all parents to come to. It will be on the turf field starting at 2:30, I will send out an official schedule next week.
Even though we have lots of exciting activities to look forward to, we will still be fitting in our regular schoolwork throughout the week. Students will have a spelling list this week, and we will still have our spelling test on Friday, so please remember to practice spelling words at home each night!
We are looking forward to a fun-filled week of learning, games, treats, and Halloween celebrations!
Tuesday is Class Picture Day! Bring those smiles! As a reminder, students should wear an AVA shirt under their hoodie or jacket for pictures and the following day will be Pay for Dress Day is Wednesday, October 21st!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
- Parents please connect to our Class Dojo- this is how to monitor your students behavior (positive and negative)
- Please send your student to school with a filled water bottle as well as a couple healthy snacks for the day. Reminder that we are a nut-free classroom.
- Colorado weather changes hourly so please pack your student appropriate attire for the day.
- We will have PE every Wednesday - and some Fridays. Please have your student wear tennis shoes for those days.
- Library day is Tuesday

Language Arts:
This week students will work on the following grammar concepts: Practicing using our 5 senses to give details in a paragraph with Topic & Conclusion Sentences. We will practice this by writing about our favorite season. We will also work on Alphabetizing words and Subject Pronouns this week!

Reading Skills: KWL's, Comprehension through Read Alouds & Independent Reading, Answering Questions through Text Evidence, and Cause and Effect
CKLA Read Aloud: How Does Your Body Work?
Spelling: Changing 'f' to 'v' from singular to plural.
Even though we have a busy (but fun) week ahead of us, students will still be coming home with Spelling Words. Please practice these words!
Also - the spelling bonus words count towards their test grade! No more extra credit for those!
Math:
Module 3: Telling Time
We will have our test A and B this week. Watch for test corrections next week for homework!

History/Science:
Science: Human Body
Students will cover the following concepts: Muscles, Involuntary Vs. Voluntary Actions, and the Brain and Nervous System. Our Human Body test will be Thursday, November 5th. Attached on my website is the Study Guide as well as a BLANK human body skeleton for them to practice filling out.

Meet Mrs. Chambless
I am in my 19th year teaching, TENTH year at AVA! LOVE it here! I have taught kindergarten, 2nd and 3rd. I am a Colorado native and love being with my family. My husband, Matt, works as a specialist for Douglas County School District... we are a teaching family! I have a sophomore in college, Allikaye, who attends Colorado Christian University in Lakewood. I also have twins in eighth grade, Kai and Cambria. We are a busy family and like it that way! We are out playing sports, hiking, traveling, camping, and love being outdoors... Colorado living... especially living in the pines in Larkspur! I love coffee, reading, rainbow colors, smiley faces, and donuts! This is going to be a great year!
