Weekly HW Expectations: (20 minutes nightly reading). We will be learning from our Wonders Curriculum. Our Comprehension Strategy is to Reread the text . Rereading stories strengthens an understanding of the pattern, rhythm and pronunciation of the text

They will also receive Fluency homework one day a week.  Please time them for one minute while they read aloud.   They will underline what word they ended on, calculate the number of that word (we have learned how to do this in class) and record it on the back page.  Please time them for a minute a 2nd time while they read aloud--again from the beginning--and record how far they got this time. We are currently focusing on Wonders curriculum. Wonders helps us focus on different genres of reading each week as well as different vocabulary and specific reading strategies, while the novel offers us rich literature and rigor. Wonders packet this week is "The Drum, Birdfoot's Grandpa and From My Chinatown" with Reread, Main Idea and Key Details, Text Questions, Vocabulary, Paragraph Writing and Context Clues.

We have also just started one of our Core Knowlege novels,"Treasure Island" by Robert Louis Stevenson. We will be reading this on Tuesdays and Thursdays and there is also a packet that we fill out after each chapter is read.  This will culminate with a "Pirate Day" at the end of the year where we will wear costumes and have a pirate themed day.  Stay tuned for more information!

Fluency Homework is: "Me, As a Mountain", please initial their paper when it is completed and return. Due to turn in on Friday.  Finally, they should finish reading the passage--silently is fine now, and then answer the questions.
