Character Education

Hello!

We're Mrs. Rodarte and Mrs. Sielaff, and we're so excited to kick off the 2026–2027 school year with you!

You might notice something a little different about our class—we job share! That means you'll see Mrs. Rodarte on some days and Mrs. Sielaff on others. Think of it as getting two teachers, two perspectives, and twice the encouragement throughout the year!

Character Education is all about building the skills that help you succeed in school, at home, with friends, and beyond. This year we'll challenge ourselves to grow by learning how to:

  • Build confidence and resilience

  • Set and achieve meaningful goals

  • Strengthen friendships and create a positive community

  • Discover our values and use them to make good decisions

  • Solve problems and resolve conflicts respectfully

  • Manage stress and emotions in healthy ways

  • Practice kindness, empathy, leadership, and responsibility

We'll laugh, reflect, work together, step outside our comfort zones, and celebrate growth along the way. Our classroom is a place where everyone belongs, everyone is respected, and everyone has the opportunity to become the best version of themselves.

One of our favorite parts of teaching is getting to know our students. We believe that strong relationships make learning better, and we can't wait to learn about your interests, celebrate your successes, and support you through the challenges. We know this is going to be a fantastic year!

Please take a few minutes to review the Character Education Policies and Procedures document below. It will answer many of your questions and help you know what to expect this year. If you or your family have any questions, concerns, or just want to introduce yourselves, please don't hesitate to email us. We look forward to partnering with you and making this an amazing year!

ABSENT? PLEASE COMPLETE THIS ASSIGNMENT:

MINDFULNESS JOURNAL ENTRY

Please complete ONE full-page handwritten OR a half-page typed journal entry if you miss more than two days of school. This is how you will earn the daily participation points (10 points per day) for the class you missed. You can email it to both of us OR do a handwritten journal and turn it in. You have two days to complete the journal entry assignment after each absence.

What is mindfulness? Mindfulness means paying attention to the present moment — your thoughts, feelings, and surroundings — without judging them. How can journaling help? Writing in a journal helps you:

  •  Understand yourself better – note your thoughts and emotions
  •  Slow down – take a break from racing thoughts or screens
  •  Manage stress – let out feelings in a healthy way
  •  Find gratitude – focus on what’s going right
  •  Be kind to yourself – reflect without judging

HOW TO START:  Find a quiet spot and take a few deep breaths. Spend 5–10 minutes writing — no rules, no pressure. Be honest, your journal is just for you. Try these prompts if you need help getting started:

  • What am I feeling right now?
  • What went well today?
  • What’s something I’m grateful for?
  • What’s one thing I want to let go of?
  • What’s one thing I learned about myself today?

Remember: You can’t do journaling “wrong.” The goal isn’t perfect writing — it’s noticing and being present.
