Weekly Newsletter

This newsletter will be a placeholder for all upcoming events and classroom information. Please do your absolute best to read through this every weekend as information is updated or added.

Here you will receive information such as academic and activity updates, parent volunteer opportunities as well as a few photos from our weekly classroom fun.  Please take the time each week to read through the 'newsletter' page and 'links' page to ensure you don't miss anything.

Reminders: Please label all of your child’s belongings so that we can easily get lost items back to
them! Also, please send snacks in the front pocket of your child’s backpack. Don’t forget to
send a water bottle.

With winter weather here, please make sure your child has the appropriate outdoor weather attire. We will go out for recess unless the “feels like” temp is less than 20 degrees.

Saxon Math:

We have been working in our First Grade Math books.

This week in math, we will be working on telling time to the 1//2 hour, and working on fact families. We will also be reviewing 3D shapes: spheres, cylinders, cones and cubes. Keep practicing those doubles and using doubles to add one more. 4+5= 9 (4+4=8+1more). Coin recognition and counting mixed coins is also a skill we keep practicing.

Below is our doubles poem that we practice daily.  See if your
student can say it!

Doubles Rap! Doubles, doubles, I can add doubles! 1 through 10 is no trouble!

0 + 0 = 0 …Oh!

1 + 1 = 2 …Oooo

2 + 2 = 4 …More

3 + 3 = 6 …Kicks

4 + 4 = 8 …That’s great!

5 + 5 = 10 …Again

6 + 6 = 12 …That’s swell!

7 + 7 = 14 …Let’s lean

8 + 8 = 16 …Know what I mean

9 + 9 = 18 …Jellybean

10 + 10 = 20 …That’s plenty!
