Overview

Physical education is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of a variety of kinetic activities and the basic knowledge of health. Activities will range from traditional to non-traditional either inside/outside depending on weather. The goal of Physical Education is to develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of fun and healthy activities. 

 

Instructional Methods 

Command – Teacher directed, what to do and how to do it. 

Practice – Teacher demonstrates and students practice by either partner or group activities. 

Reciprocal – Teacher demonstrates, student works with a partner and gives feedback on partner’s performance.

Guided Discovery – Teach tasks but allow students to come up with an outcome. 

Problem Solving – Ability to find an appropriate outcome for assigned team or individual tasks. Exploration – Mostly student centered, students can move freely while staying within safety limits.

 

NATIONAL PHYSICAL EDUCATION STANDARDS 

Physical activity is critical to the development and maintenance of good health. The goal of physical education is to develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity. 

Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities. 

Standard 2: Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities. 

Standard 3: Participates regularly in physical activity. 

Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness. 

Standard 5: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings. 

Standard 6: Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.

Written Work - 15% Quizzes, Tests, Worksheets 

Skills - 20% Fitness and Skills Testing 

Daily Participation - 65% Personal/Social behavior, Effort/Attitude/Being respectful
